Welcome to my first blog post! I actually did not intend to create a blog, but the website template I chose requires it so I thought, "Well, I do have a whole lot to say about speech-language pathology, and why I have transitioned to communication coaching. I guess instead of texting my passionate thoughts about the field to friends, I can share it here!" My hope is that through my random musings, you will get to know me, my style, and my convictions a little bit. Speech-language pathology is a unique field in that we get the opportunity to get to know each other (client and clinician) on such a deep level. Yes, providing therapy is a transaction, but that doesn't mean our exchanges have to be transactional. Speech-language therapy is about using the physical and mental skills of communication in the most functional, meaningful context. While speech-language pathologists are able to provide a great deal of these needs, communication coaches have the freedom (from insurance and the healthcare system, primarily) to address these needs as well as the non speech and language areas of wellness that ultimately impact your communication. So whether you are here as a potential client, current client, or former client, I hope this blog can give you a little bit of insight into who I am as a professional, my roots in speech-language pathology, and my rationale for transitioning away from clinical practice and toward communication coaching.
